Sharing our Learning Journey
It is a proven fact that parents are a child’s first and most enduring educators. At pre-school we realise how important it is to work with parents so that children have the best possible chance of making good progress.

Some Suggestions for Home Activities
- Encourage your child to talk about dinosaurs. Find pictures or stories about dinosaurs. Use descriptive language when talking (e.g. big dinosaur that has a loud roar, tall dinosaurs that eat the leaves on the trees, little dinosaurs that can run fast) - this will expand your child’s vocabulary and encourage them to use longer sentences.
- Pretend to be a dinosaur – stomp, roar, swish tail, etc. You could let your child choose other animals and pretend to be them.
- Count - how many? You can count anything – e.g. how many stairs, dinosaurs, people in the house, how many steps to walk down the garden, etc.
- Ask your child to draw a picture of a dinosaur and colour it in (or you could draw one!).Get them to make marks/copy/write their own name.
- Cut a piece of card or sponge to make a dinosaur footprint shape and use it to make a footprint picture. Talk about the colour and size of the footprint.
- Praise your child for what they achieve – e.g. pictures, tidying up, being kind, sharing, turn taking, eating all of their dinner, etc. It encourages them to realise that positive behaviour gets acknowledged.
- Learn the songs for this term
- Make activities a part of playing – children learn through doing – please do not put pressure on them to do these activities – they will learn and remember more if it is fun.
- It is important to listen to your child – they often know more than we realise and if they know people are interested in what they have to say it increases their confidence and self esteem.
If anybody has any suggestions for activities and/or would like to share a special interest/skill with us all at pre-school please speak to a member of staff.
